1. Select your MFA method
To set up the authenticator app, choose Authenticator App as your preferred MFA method.
2. Download a supported authenticator app
Download one of the supported apps on your mobile device:
- Microsoft Authenticator app (Android | iOS)
- Google Authenticator app (Android | iOS)
- iPhone users: Passwords app
Important: Use one of the supported apps listed above. Other authenticator apps may not work correctly with our system.
Keep the authenticator app installed on your device even after setup so you can retrieve verification codes when signing in.
3. Add your account to the authenticator app
- Open the authenticator app and select Add account or the + icon.
- Select the appropriate account type (e.g., work or school, personal, etc.), if prompted.
- Scan the QR code displayed on your account's security settings page.
If you can't scan the QR code:
- Android Users: Tap Can’t scan? Try this (only on mobile devices). This will take you to the phone’s default authenticator app and pre-populate the credentials. If not on a mobile device, the Still having trouble? link will work on desktop and mobile and will allow you to manually enter the credentials into the chosen authenticator app.
- iPhone users using Apple Passwords: You may need to enter the setup credentials manually. The Still having trouble? link will work on desktop and mobile and will allow you to manually enter the credentials into the chosen authenticator app.
4. Confirm the setup
Follow the on-screen instructions for completion. You may be asked to enter a verification code generated by your authenticator app to confirm that setup was successful.
5. Use the authenticator app when signing in
When signing in, you may be prompted to enter a verification code from your authenticator app.
- Open the app and find the corresponding account (e.g., Microsoft, Google, etc.).
- Enter the current verification code displayed for that account.
- Submit the code before it expires.
Verification codes typically refresh every 30 seconds. If a code expires before you submit it, use the newly generated code.
