All residents/fellows that have been training in their program for at least 60 days will be scheduled for a Milestone Evaluation.
New in 2026: Off-cycle resident/fellows:
Residents/fellows who currently have a status of “Started Program Off-Cycle” in ADS will be scheduled to participate in Milestone evaluations once they have been in the program for at least 60 days from their start date, and will automatically appear on the Milestones data entry page at that time. Once scheduled, the program can submit an electronic evaluation in ADS.
New in 2026: Residents/fellows with Leaves of Absence:
Even if they currently hold a status of “Leave of Absence” or have recently returned from an LOA, residents/fellows who have been training in their program for at least 60 days will now require a Milestone evaluation, as LOAs will no longer prevent them from being scheduled. If an updated set of scores is not available due to the trainee’s LOA, programs may choose to submit the same levels reported in the previous Milestones, or select the 'Not Yet Assessable/Not Yet Achieved' response options, as appropriate.
Off-cycle graduates/departures:
For Mid-Year (Fall) Milestones: If the resident/fellow is still in training on or after September 1st of the current AY, the program will submit that trainee’s final Milestone in October-January; this includes trainees that are off-cycle graduates, have transferred to another program, been dismissed, have withdrawn, etc.
For Year-End (Spring) Milestones: If the resident/fellow is still in training on or after January 16th of the current AY, the program will submit that trainee’s final Milestone in April-June; this includes trainees that are off-cycle graduates, have transferred to another program, been dismissed, have withdrawn, etc.
