Programs participating in the Advancing Innovation in Residency Education (AIRE) pilot entitled “The Cardiovascular Disease and Adult Congenital Heart Disease Competency-based Alternative Training Pathway” will reduce overall training by double-counting the third year of cardiovascular disease (CVD) training as the first year of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) training. Approved CVD and ACHD programs that have fellows participating in the pilot will identify them in ADS as follows:
- Fellow must be identified as participating in the AIRE pilot. Please follow the instructions for managing fellow AIRE participation found here:
- For year 1 and year 2 of training, participating fellows must be listed as “Active Full Time” only in the CVD program’s ADS fellow roster.
- For year 3 of training, participating fellows must be listed as “Active Part Time” in both the CVD and ACHD programs’ ADS fellow rosters.
- Identifying pilot fellows as “active part time” and participating in AIRE will allow that fellow to participate in both the CVD and ACHD program’s ACGME Fellow Survey. Both programs will also have to complete Milestones for the fellow as well.
- For year 4 of training, the pilot fellow must have their status in the CVD program updated to “Completed All Accredited Training” and they will remain in the ACHD program and must have their status updated to “Active Full Time”.
- After successful completion of the 4th year of training, the pilot fellow’s status must be updated to “Completed All Accreditation Training” in the ACHD program.
