Cross-highlighting and cross-filtering allow users to explore and analyze data interactively.
Cross-highlighting selects a value in one visual to highlight related data in other visuals, such as column and bar charts.
1. Select a value in one visual to highlight the related data in visuals such as columns and bar charts.
Cross highlighting doesn't remove the unrelated data from those visuals. Instead, the unrelated data will be dimmed but still visible.
In the above image, clicking on the bar chart on the right, highlights the state, and the other bars are still visible but dimmed.
2. Select the value again or right click and select "clear selections" to remove the highlighting.
Cross-filtering enables filtering data in one visual based on selections made in another visual.
Selecting a value in one visual behaves more like a filter in other visuals such as line charts, scatter plots, and maps. In those visuals, only the related data remains visible. The unrelated data is invisible, just as you see with a filter.
3. Select a section on the visual to filter out the rest of the data on the visuals, leaving just related data visible.
4. Select the value again or select an empty space in the scene visual to remove the highlighting.

5. Right click in the scene visual and select "clear selections" to remove the highlighting.
Cross filtering and cross hiding can be useful to identify how one value of your data contributes to another.
