Program Data Dashboard
Replaces Sections A and B of the previously published Data Resource Book
This dashboard summarizes the accreditation statuses of currently accredited programs, as well as trends in the total number of accredited programs. To create a comprehensive dashboard on graduate medical education for an academic year, an annual snapshot of the database is taken at the end of each academic year. The trends shown here are based on the combination of these snapshots over time for historical information. This particularly affects the counts of withdrawn and newly accredited programs, which may change following the publication of the dashboard. The current academic year data are based on near-real time.
This dashboard also shows Accreditation statuses by specialty for all programs, newly accredited programs, and programs with loss of accreditation.
In addition, information on the lengths of programs varying by specialty, as well as on programs that have achieved Osteopathic Recognition, is included.
Withdrawn programs are reported in three categories: those withdrawn prior to the end of the academic year (which are not included in the population of accredited programs); those withdrawn at the end of the academic year; and those with a future-effective withdrawal date.
This program dashboard summarizes the geographic distribution of programs overall and by specialty, the distribution of programs, and the average number of residents per program overall and by specialty. There are currently ACGME-accredited programs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia (DC), and Puerto Rico.
Program Directors and Faculty Dashboard
Replaces Section G of the previously published Data Resource Book
This dashboard includes information and trends regarding program director turnover and tenure, as well as statistics on the total number of faculty members and faculty members per program.
Program director changes describe if a program had at least one program director change during the academic year, and tenure describes the length of time program directors spend in this role. In addition, the dashboard provides statistics on mean length in years that new and continuing program directors spent teaching in their specialty.
The dashboard provides descriptive statistics on physician faculty members and core physician faculty members by specialty and subspecialty, such as average number of physician faculty members listed per program.
Demographic race/ethnicity is available for core physician faculty members. The ACGME adopted a race/ethnicity reporting standard in line with that of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System as follows:
- If the individual self-identifies as Hispanic only, or Hispanic and any race category, report as Hispanic.
- If the individual self-identifies as not Hispanic; more than one race category, report as two or more races ("Multiple Race”).
Notes: Unknown ethnicity includes both unknown and blank, while ‘Other’ indicates a known ethnicity other than the ones available for selection.
- The source data of race/ethnicity reported are based upon self-reported data provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Program Activities Dashboard
Replaces Section H of the previously published Data Resource Book
This dashboard summarizes what residents/fellows are taught about pain management, including recognition of the signs of addiction, by specialty and subspecialty.
